Need help finding the problem with audio!

Hi,

I bought a new JVC deck/stereo (Not sure of the model) from Best Buy for my 1994 Toyota Celica over the summer, and it was working for a bit in my car after installing it, but then it stopped working. I've been busy with college and haven't had time to dig too deep into getting it fixed until now.

I had some friends of mine who do mechanical work took a look at it, but wiring isn't their strong suit.

Here's some of the things that we did:

-Rewired everything multiple times, would not start up still

-Replaced all of the fuses (in car and deck)

-Tested the deck in a different car, and it worked

-Tested the deck directly to the car battery, and it worked

They said it's probably the car wiring itself, but they said to find someone who is knows audio more. Before just paying someone to try to find the problem and then fix it, I'd figure I'd ask here and get more thoughts of what might be the problem.

So does anyone have any idea of potential problems with the audio?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

If the headunit is not powering on you have one of 3 wires giving you a problem...your ground, constant, or ignition wires. Here is a good way to test them. Go to your local walmart, pick up a cheap voltmeter...first, test your constant 12v line. put the negative prob on the neg battery terminal OR the inner surround of the cig socket and the pos on the wire, you should get 12v...if not, there is more than likely a fuse in the under the hood box blown... next test your ignition, keep your neg where it is, place pos on ign wire and turn the key to ign...you should get 12v then...if not you have a fuse bad in the compartment fuse box...then test your ground, place the neg, on your ground wire and the pos on your constant wire...you should get 12v if not, relocate your ground wire by making a new one in metal on the frame of the car

Thanks for the fast replies!

Is there a difference in how user friendly the two are? I personally don't have that much exp. with this kind of stuff. But I can check Walmart or some car shop for these and let you know how it goes.

I like to use a test light - very quick and easy to use.
