Need help figuring out my subwoofer situation

I'm not a newb to car audio, I'm just a newb to the non store brand subwoofers. I originally built my box for a 12" diamond d3. It's 1.96 cubes net ported with a 4" round and tuned to 38hz. My problem now is that one of the voice coils on my diamond crapped. I'm running a kicker cvx now and I'm not impressed with it. My problem now is what to do sub wise. I can send my diamond in for a recone which will run me in the 200$ range by the time I ship it, or I can go with something like a Dayton audio dvc. I'm limited on mounting depth and need some opinions/ideas from the more seasoned audio gurus on what will perform the best in my enclosure. I loved the way the diamond sounded but I'm torn on the recone and if it would change the original sound of the diamond.

Why is the tuning so high?

I'd look for a better sub, and a quality boxbuilder and with a good design for one.

I built the box by the spec sheet on the diamond. I can change port tuning pretty easy if needed. Mounting depth is my only problem with a different sub. The psi recone seems pretty good but I wanted some more options and advice from the experienced before getting a recone.

You want to keep it under $200? soundqubed hds312 isn't bad for the money, but i can't say if it'll work well in that box. @CSCStang knows much better but off hand it sounds good

just noticed you have limited mounting depth, get us an accurate number if you can

I'll have to measure after I get off work. The kicker is 6 11/16 deep and I'm pretty sure that leaves me about 1/2" which is pushing it for pole venting. And around 200$ would be great. Psi quoted me 140 for a recone on the diamond but after shipping I'd say it would be around 200$ total. I just don't know if I want to recone a stamped steel basket even though the diamond did sound pretty sweet.

I've got 7" overall depth from the back of the mounting surface which is 1" thick.
