Hi Everyone,
I am new to this forum and relatively new to car audio. I recently purchased a couple pairs of speakers to upgrade the stock paper whizzer-cone GM speakers in a 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP. Rear deck speakers is the problem. Got the new ones in...(Polk Audio DX-691i 3 ways) and got the car back together, but the sound is very chesty or boxy sounding.....lots of muddiness in the bass, midbass, and lower midrange. The speakers were a drop in replacement, and pretty sure I identified the speaker positive wires.....
Original speakers had a spacer on top...about 3/8" thick and some foam tape on top of that. Rear package tray has a bulgy plastic housing that I don't understand what the reason is for, since it is far larger than the speakers and serves no other defineable purpose that I can fathom....and I wonder if this space is the cause of the muddiness. Or are Polk Audio speakers just that crappy? What am I overlooking. It is the wife's car, and she just wanted to keep the stock HU, just upgrade the speakers. Done this before, just never really had this issue before.
Any insight someone could provide would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, John
