Need help deciding which Sony receiver should I get

That 7000 series looks pretty decent. For $224 for 2 tower speakers you really can't go wrong. And, if you end up not liking them, you can always put them up for sale. Keep in mind, you'll have to break them in so for the first few months, they may not be giving you a full response. It doesn't say anything about what type of tweeters they have, but if they're liquid cooled, they will "crackle" until they warm up. That is a very common trait for liquid cooled tweeters. Keep that in mind if they do crackle at first.

Oh, and lastly, if you're going to be running a sub, the 6000 series should suffice. The 7000 would also benefit from a sub, though it may not be necessary depending on how you want it to sound. I've got a set of Yamahas with 10s in them and they do not need a sub when fed the correct power (about 150 rms). I've got a sub because my Yamaha receiver took a crap on me and my cheap replacement (Kenwood) doesn't supply nearly enough power.

yeah but i live in a big open space in the basement at my college home so I thought 7000 series would be better since it is pretty hard to get loud in the basement so to me, the bigger the better ha.. since it should be louder..

also with the 7.1 receiver I plan on getting, I might just bi-amp the fronts so it would be 200 watts per channel which is perfect for 7000, while it might be a bit too much for the 6000 speakers

Ever hear the Sony transmission lines from the ES days? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
Might have been pre-ES, even.

I believe those (and the smaller stand mount) were a sealed design if I remember correctly.

I don't see anything with the 7000 series having the capability to be bi-amped. I looked on Sony's website and it doesn't say anything about that.

ah i see i thought i could just like bridge 2 channels from the receiver and run one positive and negative to the speaker with 200 watt supply instead of 100?

sorry im still a noob so i thot this would be possible, but if not then oh well thats cool

This would cause damage to the internal amp on the receiver. I looked on their website and I didn't see any Sony speakers that were bi-ampable.

i guess i can just get a separate amp for those towers in the future if that is possible lol?
Technically yes, however, you would not get surround sound anymore from it. There is a preout on the back of the receiver, used for recording and that can be ran to a separate amp...hmm...thinking about it, you might still be able to get most of the surround sound effect by doing that. I'm not sure what source it has to be on in order to get that preout to work, or maybe it works all the time. That would be something to look at in the owner's manual. I'm not 100% sure. I'll try and find it for you.

It will depend on the source you're using. Video 1 has RCA, optical, and HDMI. If you are using Video 1, you have an output as well for that as a L/R RCA output. You could run that to a preamp, but it would only work when Video 1 is the source. The CD input has an output as well. This would work the same way as the Video 1. The CD input would have to be selected to get sound out of the preouts.

i see no problem..

I m thinking prolly it would be easier to upgrade to a better receiver in the future and call it a day lol?

but for now i ll just hook it up running off 100 watts no problem, im sure it would sound good anyway

many thanks for ur help, i ll hit u up again if i need help on something else
