Need help deciding on a sub

I currently have the following:

10" Alpine Type R 1022D (Dual 2ohm)

Alpine MRP-M650 (400W RMS@4ohms/600W RMS@2ohms)

.65 sealed Qlogic box

Pioneer AVIC-D3 HU

I'm not satisfied with the bass. Just doesn't hit that hard/clean. The sub also rattles quite a bit when its pushed, which doesn't seem normal. I put a friend's 12" Bazoka (in a ported box, quite big) in my car, hooked to my amp...and it sounds a lot better/louder. Granted it's in a ported box. I have a very small trunk (2006 GTO).

I'm leaning towards this:

Kicker Solo-Baric L7 (Dual 4ohm), 600WRMS (300W per coil)

QLogic 2.0 ported box

Do you think I'd like the difference from my current setup? Should I be looking at a 12"? I want small amount of space as possible, which is why I like the 10". I listen to everything, mainly rock/pop/techno. I want loud and clean bass.

I'm keeping the M650 amp, so anything better than will take 600W rms?

OK, so is the Kicker L7 (http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Product/Item/Main.aspx?search=10%22+l7&i=2066S10L7) a good sub? It looks like it would match perfectly with my Alpine-M650 since it's a dual 4ohm voice coil and I could push 600w RMS to it.

My lights dim as it is already lol. I have a 140a alternator with a REDTOP. Only pushing 50wx4 RMS to my components. I'm not sure why this is happening....

That should work pretty good. the Kicker L7's are known pretty good for their output. They seem to be a love/hate sound but definitely recognized for pur bass output, and matched with a ported box you sure would get a pretty big bang for your buck.

kicker l7 in the right ported box will sound alot better than your type r in its sealed box. but put that r in a properly tuned ported enclosure tuned around 40 or 45 hz and it will sound alot better.

If that ^^ box will work, I think I'll ge the ported 10" box and see how the Alpine TypeR does in that. If it still sucks, I'm going to get the Kicker L7.

you need a different box for your type r. put it in a ported box around 1.5-2.0 cu ft tuned to 32-35 hz with a good 20 inches of port and you'll be much happier with the amount/kick of bass.

why not go ported with thy typeR..i always found techno sounds better with a 10'' instead of a 12''
