If you get a sub that has duel 4 ohm..does that mean its twice the power suggested?

Say I have a Amp that puts out 500 at 2 channels and the sub rms is 450 I am running one channel to each sub..is that enough power? I am confused cause it looks like you need a four channel amp to run the two subs cause of the duel coils...am I way off..help!!!

thanks

no, you CAN wire each voice coil to a channel, although its smarter to stay mono. You idealy want a mono amp for any sub setup. A Dual Voice Coil sub rated RMS is what you should send it, not twice cause its dual. A subwoofer can be ran off a 2 channel amp, bridgeable or not. Are you actually having this problem (having a 4 channel amp and DVC subs)? or just wondering what you need? Depending on ur situation i, and many of us can go into detail about what else you need to take care of...

Ok..I am going to get two fosgate HX2(RMS 400) or ED 8A.44(RMS 450) 8in they are duel 4ohm..

My amp is a 2 channels 500 watts at 4 ohm ...is that under power? I am still a little confused...would one channel at 500 watts be enough to run one of the sub and the other channel the other?? thanks

yes, what amp (got a link, full spec site?)? it will be easier to figure it out and make sure its all right... But if @ 4 ohms its 500x2 i dont think it can happen. A DVC 4 ohm sub can only be ran at 2 and 8 ohm loads, which in ur case doesnt work. Is that amp bridgeable? I'll can tell more once i look at all the spec's on it.
