Need Help Chosing Amp

I am getting an Alpine SWR-12D4

Alpine SWR-12D4 (swr12d4) 12" Dual 4 Ohm Type-R Series Car Subwoofer

The sub is 600 watts RMS DVC so do I run the amp to it at 2 ohms, and will the amp I chose be enough or too much power?

I have that amp, its the best amp for the price for sure. Its rated at 1000w at 2ohm, so with some box rise and you probably have lower voltage than what the amp is rated at you will be lucky to have 800rms going to the sub, I have read that sub will take that easily.

Why that sub? Why dont' you get a sub that can use the full potential of the amp?

For the price of the sub there are other options that will really like that amp. I hate to be "hugger" buty I run Sundown SD-2 10's that would take that all day and give you room in the truink. You can find them for close to same price if not cheaper. Its never a bad thing to have an amp rated more than your subs it gives you the capability to stay in the clean power range easier which is better when using "cheaper" components and stock source units.

Well the sub is only 600 RMS so I would be fine with it getting 800, I don't want to push it too much. So it will be fine right?

And I chose this sub because it seems to be the best one for that price. I was originally only going to spend $65 on a sub, so I was very hesitant to increase my budget that much.

For that price I would either bump up to a

American Bass XFL 12" $180 carstereogiant.com

or drop down to a

Pioneer TS-W3002D2 12 In. Champion Series PRO Subwoofer - $107 - amazon.com

I have the pioneer on the aspm1500 and it takes all the wattage fine. I am going to upgrade to a 15 XFL though.

Look at c2 Threatcon $129 with free shipping very beefy sub and should be able to handle 800 watts then later on get another one to drop 1 ohm on that apsm 1500
