Need help choosing a battery.

I'll be upgrading the stereo equipment in my friend's 2006 Lincoln LS next weekend, so I thought I'd see what kind of batts you guys recommend.

The system will be in the 1,500 watt neighborhood with stock alt and big 3 upgrade in 4 awg. Budget is $200-ish, and he'd like to get by with 1 battery if possible.

1500 rms? I'm using two batteries. I got them from autozone. they are a blue top duralast battery. 1000 CCA, 115 amps hour. 180 reserve cap. very powerful battery. and its a dual purpose battery starting and deep cycle. discharges fast and will let you drain it lol.

i walk out of there with no core to give them and its only about 97 dollars and some change for a new battery.

Well, yeah, you are payin' some more for the HC 2400, but it is a single battery and will more than handle the wattage you are running.

Depending on the actual amps and how hard he plans on running everything a hc2000 should work well. Those on on ebay for under 250 shipped

On that Lincoln LS isn’t the battery in the trunk and is reasonable size too

If so the one batt should be fine

Makes a huge difference by having the battery near the amplifiers

Stay away from the Optima batteries they are Junk

The older ones had some issues but the newer ones should be fine. But don't go with a red, get a yellow.

Most people like Optima's because they can pick them up locally and not pay shipping.

Personally, I think the Deka's are very good for the price.

I use the D34/78 yellow top. I really like it. It's my 3rd Optima total. I used to run a red top up front and a D31A in back. I got sick of 2 batteries. The rear battery made my car sit funny, and the red top is only a starting battery. If I worked on my car for more than 2 hours with the doors open, it would die, just as any starting battery would. My car does have 9 interior lights and usually my hood and trunk are open too when I'm doing something so add another 5 lights for that. With the new yellow top I've got, I can work on my car endlessly and not have any issues with the battery. Voltage drops are also down to a minimum with that and my big 3. Optima yellow tops have proven to be great batteries.

I'm noticing a lot of Tempest "equivalents" while I'm researching batts, and I've gotta ask if anyone's familiar with the brand. Tempest's equivalent of the Kinetik HC2000 is $163, while the Kinetik model varies from $220 - $270.

Since your friend isn't upgrading the alt, I imagine this is for modest bumpage, and parking lot show-offs.

The Tempest looks nice, and is a great price.

Just missed the $25 rebate deal for Optimas. Their d31t should do you right, for $210 shipped from amazon (without the rebate).

Deka 9a31 Intimidator is also a great choice for a single bat, but RemyBatteries is out of stock for the main model. If you don't mind post mount, they have them for $220 shipped.

You should stick with the automotive batts. The telecom/backup system batts are getting popular but are not made for the current/cycling demands that automotive ones are.

Just because two batts have the same Ah, it doesn't mean that they will perform the same.
