PE carpet is fail now. It used to be the go to brand for me, but they ****ed it up. Now it has one side being plusher than the other which makes it harder to go around corners and frays more when it's cut. Man, I don't know. I got some and i've been using PE carpet for years, and I start feeling it and was like //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif and I struggled for like 45 minutes to tuck it into the corners because the shit just straight up was too thick. Maybe I got a bad batch, who knows. All I do know is that I did NOT like it and it was NOT the same stuff that I have usually gotten.

Was it the 54" unback cabinet carpet or that 40" (ish) automotive carpet. I have used the auto carpet before, and yes, its much thicker than the cabinet carpet...

It was definitely 54" wide. OP, buy some and tell us how it feels. I am hoping that somehow I got a bad batch of it because it was simply atrocious to work with.
