Need Help Asap

I installed a pioneer 4800mp in my dad's 89 300sel and it works fine but the gauge lights don't work (behind speedo, etc etc), so I pulled out the deck and there's a factory wire labeled "Illum" that's not hooked up, so I was playing around trying to connect it to diff. wires to get the lights to come on and the factory alarm started goin off. It goes off now at random times-what did I do wrong? The power antennae wire is connected to the pioneer's rem wire along with the amp, and when I hooked up the "illum" wire to this along with the antennae and amps rem. wire it sounded the alarm. What do I do to fix this? He needs his car tonight, so this is urgent-thanks in advance!!

THis is precisely the reason why I chose not to install aftermarket audio in my Mercedes. EVERYTHING runs through the radio in that thing!

Well you got yourself in a little pickel? I have not did any installs on MB but I agree with docutech in that everything runs through the stereo. THe factory theft system along with the saftey features such as airbag, door chimes etc. Have you tried re-intalling the factory unit? Also the wire marked "illum" is merly for dimming the H.U when the lights are turned on. Dont worry about that wire. Did you have any power or sound when you installed the pioneer? Its very possible that you need more stuff to install this unit such as a by-pass unit or more? Im not expert with this type a vehicle but I can try to help to the best of my knowledge.
