Need Help/Advice With SubWoofers + Amp Technical Details..?

I have two 12" Phoenix Gold QX12 DVC SUB's

Power: 200W * SPL: 90dB * Impedance: 2x4ohms

200W RMS, 400 MAX 4 ohm

I need some advice on what type/kind of amp to get to power both of em in a 2 channel parallel setup like this: youtube.com/watch?v=I2t2C4ipZNs

so would I need an A/B amp that is 800 watts max = 400w x 2 at 2ohms

or what would be the recommended max watts & ohms to send to each sub..?

when they say max watts isn't the RMS half of that..?

how would I calculate a formula to determine what specs I would need in an amp to power my 2 subs..?

Realistically you can use an amp that will push anywhere from 500 watts up to 1000 watts if you set your gains properly. The subs will only take what they will take, so the headroom of a 1000 watt amp will give you a broader clean power range. I personally would wire everything paralell, making whatever amp you choose see a 1 ohm load, then I would find a class D amp that gives you 500-1000 watts RMS into 1 ohm. Do not look at "Max" or "Dynamic" power ratings... only RMS. The main thing to remember is the gain isn't a volume knob... it is there to match your amps input to your source units output voltage, so if you go with a bigger amp, be sure you set the gains properly so you don't clip the signal and cook your subs!

You have alot of options, but first Id look for a 5 channel that does 500@1 or 4 ohms on the sub channel. I prefer the 5 channel option due to simplified wiring in the rear and expandability. If you decide to amp your speakers down the road you can, if you decide to only run a front stage you can bridge the 4 channel portion, if you decide to run active you can also do that. Its especially helpful if you are working with limited room.

If your 100% stuck on a 2 channel look for something that does 250x2@2 ohms per channel. Then you can wire each sub individually at 2 ohms rather than at 1 or 4 ohms.

We cant really point you in the direction of a good amp yet. We need to know your goals for the system and a budget.

so It needs to say in the tech specks RMS @ 2 Ohm 225 Watts x 2

so is each channel/sub getting 225 watts RMS - or is each sub only getting half of 225 watts..?

since my subs are rated a 400w MAX - would having 400w RMS going to each sub be over powering them or is 200-300 watts RMS per sub the sweet spot..?

were are you finding this rated power listing at..?

i dont see anything about rated power on that amp you showed me..?

how can you tell if an amp does rated power..?

Personal experience. A lot of companies false advertise their power ratings. Amps that are said to put out 800w hardly put out 500w. You need to know firsthand what brands to look for
