So I have a 2013 Jeep Wrangler with the factory optional Alpine Premium "upgrade" system. For those that don't know, the CANBUS controls everything here. Also, all of the adjustments made at the HU are actually controlled in the factory Alpine amp. So if you cut out or bypass the factory amp, you'll lose tuning/volume controls at the HU and on the steering wheel.
So, I've seen where a couple of people have purchased the Rockford Fosgate PBR300x1 or PBR300x2 amps to run in line just to the sub. Does anyone know what the correct way to go about wiring one of these would be in order to keep all functionality at the HU and steering wheel controls? I've had one guy tell me that you just take the wiring from the HU that's going into the spot for the sub in the factory alpine, and wiring that to this new RF amp, and then from there to the sub. Then I had another guy tell me this would surge it towards the radio and cause shortages in the main car computer (CANBUS is what I think he's referring to here). Is there any truth in this?
I've had another guy tell me that it acts like a booster amp if you take the line out from the factory amp (to the sub), and run that to this new amp, and then wire the output side to the sub, essentially acting like a booster pump after a main pump.
Does any of this sound right? Does anyone have any better suggestions?
