Need advice on a "somewhat soft" sub installation

Yeah, you can always go for the ed's too, ive heard them, they sound really good too. As far as the basslink, i seconded it because a friend of mine has it and it gives out some great bass and SQ. You can check one out at circuit city, they usually have em.

The kxs wouldn't be a bad choice. The single 12kx I tried out sounded very good but then he came apart on me. eD has some good sounding subs and you wouldn't go wrong with any of em. The basslink was just a suggestion for simplicity.

I installed a basslink in a friends grand am and was not impressed. I still think the best bang for the buck is going to be either the JL 10W3, or the RE 10", I have never heard an RE but a lot of people in here love the sound quality. Put them in a sealed box and get a good clean 300 watt amp (kicker, Eclipse, fosgate etc). You can "buy it now" for $144.00 for a 300watt 2 channel kx kicker amp on Ebay. I think this will give you the add punch when you're listening to hip-hop.

Yea I'm in Chicago.

I think this sums up what you guys recommend:

· JL audio 10W3 sub (just one) in a sealed box (.6 cu.ft.) and a 200-300 watt kx kicker amplifier

· eDesign O Series

· Pair of RE 8's

· mtx amp, around 400 watts with a decent 10 or 12

· elemental design Kx 10 or 12, then a profile amp

· JL 10W3 or RE 10", in sealed box, 300W amp (kicker,eclipse,fosgate)

· infinity basslink

I think what I'm going to do first is at least see if I can try out the basslink before I buy it (or buy it, try it, and return if it doesn't meet my needs) since that seems to be the simplest route to go. If I'm not satisfied with it, out of those choices, which would a majority of you recommend ?

What if I put in some 6.5" speakers in the back? the 6x9s I bought have way more treble than the front door speakers, but the door speakers have more defined midrange. Do 6.5 speakers only have bass (eg. only 1-way speakers?)

i seriously dont think that JL and "best bang for the buck" should be used in the same sentence.
definetly not kicker amps either.
what? Kicker amps are some of the best made and he can get 300w bridged for $145.00 (with warranty). You can't tell me that isn't a good price.

Contrary to what you might think when getting subs in [for someone
My main choice of music is rap/hip hop but I also listen to jazz, classical, r&b, and generally anything I think sounds good. So I would be looking for the sub to "hit" when needed [rap/hiphop/r&b/etc] but is not truly necessary.

Right now, I have a simple car stereo system: basic cd head unit @ 50W x 4, 4x6s in the door, and 6x9s in the rear. I just got this car about 2 weeks ago, and put those speakers in last week.

I would like the sub(s) to go loud, but not to the point where I can be heard a block away. I place fidelity over loudness. I wouldn't even mind if the sub ran off of the head unit's built in amp [if that's possible???, but without taking from the other speakers]

A friend told me he could "hook me up" with a system for around $600 - but the system he was talking about is the type where it's un-necessarily loud and "too much" (lol) bass.

Also, I don't want to attract a lot of attention to myself...in my neighborhood...people get jacked every other day.

On a scale from 1-10 on how well I know what I'm talking about, I'm at about a 4. Know a little bit about electronics hear and there, but not that much. I can definitely say that I wouldn't want something louder than 300-400 watts and don't want to have to sacrifice a lot [like space and comfortability] just to get something decent-sounding put in.

So, what kind of recommendations do you guys have? I'm placing a $400 or so budget on this - thanks.
buy a 8 or ten inch powered bazzoka tube.

you can git straps with it so you can bolt it down and make it hard to jack.
