Hey guys, so basically im contemplating the idea of getting into the motorcycle world, ive like them for awile now and was always curious / wanted to ride... My father rides a hayabusa and that things the sickest thing in the world, i myself have never ridden before, but was thinking of getting myself a bike and need some advice on what would be a good one for a beginner rider

I know that when you think of beginner riders, you think of some ****ty POS 200 CC motorcycle, and i understand where your coming from with that, but at the same time i dont wanna look like the tard to all the other bikers out there

do you think starting out with a 600CC would be a little much? its all about throttle control right, just because you have it dosent mean you have to use it...

I dont really know much but afew i was scoping out was the

Suzuki GSX-R600

or the

Honda CBR600RR

anyone care to chime in on any other suggestions / comments? im more then welcome to hear it, opinions welcome

I have a Gixxer 600 myself, definitely not for someone who doesn't have any idea what they're doing. A Ninja 250 or 500 can be found for cheap and perfect for beginners until they get the basics down.

I am serious about the dirtbike...

Just get one, tool around for 6-7 months everyday until you get decent at controlling a bike...

Then go get your learners and only drive on easy going roads with out much traffic.

I say ride what you think you can handle. Take the msf course first and foremost. A 250 can kill you just as quickly as a 600 can, so i dont understand why everyone always says you shouldnt ride a 600 first. I understand that it has more potential for speed, and smaller bikes are easier to control, but at 60 miles an hour it doesnt matter how big the engine is if you wreck or get hit by a passenger vehicle. I personally dont care for gixxers, but that is a personal preference. The new Cbrs are awesome. How much are you looking to spend on one?

First things first though, take a weekend and get the MSF class out of the way. It will help you alot with low speed manuvering which is where alot of new riders dump there bikes. Second step is to get some gear. At least a helmet, jacket, gloves. This will give you some time to do some research on what type of bike suits you best, and you can keep your eyes out for deals. If you take these steps and be responsible your chances of getting injured are greatly reduced.

Also something I wish I would have done is wait until the end of the year between November and February to buy. Dealerships will be trying to clear out old models which gives you some good discounts.

Just buy an 1100. Then youll be learning on a fast bike, so youll be able to drive anything. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Get one of the smaller CC bikes and learn on that, its more forgiving then the current 600's and will cost a lot less to fix things that break (especially when they go down or drop, and you will drop it) so until you have some experience under your belt id stay away from the 600s. You'll have a better time getting used to the brakes, controls, ect..

The current 600's are just as fast and the older model 1000cc bikes, and those things are no joke. Dont try to do any stupid stunts, you're going to end up on the ground looking like a retard anyway. I dont get the fascination of stunting, but whatever. Get your gear, all of it. Helmet, gloves, boots, full leather, ect. It costs less then skin grafts, and the asphalt is hotter then the gear so you have no excuses.

Definitely take the MSF course, they might be booked for a while. However you can just show up and take someones spot if there is a no show (and there usually is) The dirt bike idea is pretty good, though you use the rear more on the dirt and the front more on the street, at least its experience.

Another bike id throw into your choices as a 1st, Suzuki SV650. Get some research going, and ask questions over on the motorcycle forums.
