Hey everyone,

So I've been running my sound system of some gimp *** battery that came in my car. Lately the battery has been having problems holding its charge etc. Lately its gotten really cold around here (-30C) and the battery simply can't handle it anymore.

I need a new battery which will be my primary car battery but also will supply the power to my amp for my sub.

I was thinking of getting an Optima Yellow top, do they work good as a main car battery or are they mainly trunk batteries? What do I need to look for to find a good battery that does both jobs?

Thanks a lot!

I was just looking through the Optima products and it would seem a red top would be better for the main car battery, what do you guys think?

well. my advice for you is to upgrade your charging system electrical... known as "The big 3"... that will help you out A LOT!! and as for the battery, if you dont want to add another in the trunk and just keep it under the hood i would go with an optima.. probably the cheapest battery you can find that will fit under the hood... yellow tops are deep cycles, so they have a little more juice than the red tops.. also more expensive.. but if you do the big 3 and get the red top you should be fine.

Thanks though, I think I'll get a red top.

I think the Red Tops are more for starting the car. The Yellow Tops are better for electronics and audio. I may have it backwards though, but honestly if your running one battery, it better be a big one.

I've been doing some reading and it would seem that the red top is better as a starter battery, especially where I live because it has a higher CCA (Cold Crank) rating compared to the Yellow top. Though the yellow top is a deep cycle battery that I could use a lot onger with the car off.

I think I'll be going with the red top just because of the higher CCA rating.
