Nakamichi CD500 ?

Now you heard otherwise;)
SHUT UP !!!

I see it's still in your sig so are you still running that Gold Tube Panasonic head unit?? I wish I lived near you so I could hear it. But alas I live in MI.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

But I thought it skipped by design, not a design flaw.??

Couldve been a bit of both, but of the decks that Ive sold ( a few dozen) Ive had yet to have any complaints or returns.

Bearing in mind some of the people that complain are using scratched/marked CDs. For the person buying a Nak HU for the rights reasons...High end no frills transport, this shouldnt be a concern.

Also I'm talking about something that is situation specific...while driving, vehicle with stiff suspension...car is a rattlebox etc...

My headunit never skipped, but since lowering the car and thinner profile tires I got it to hickup two or three times going over railroad tracks etc..

That'll do it. When I had the Eclipses I would feed it CD's so dinged up they could've used a claybar job....All those CD's I mistreated I cannot use anymore with my deck.

I know...I had a few of your CDs remember? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

It also skips more than the average CD player.
This was the post I was originally referring to guys. I just can't see a CD that is more prone to skip being worth it. Especially if you have stiff suspension on your car or if you live in MI where the roads leave alot to be desired.

Not that I've heard. And it never did in the short time (5 weeks) I had it in my car.
Also, referring to the P9: Like I said in an earlier post the P9 did not skip in my car. My car isn't exactly a Cadillac as far as suspensions go and it never skipped.

I dont know about the P9 but my eclipse deck wouldnt skip if hit with a hammer. pioneer wasnt bad at all. i have had Nak 35z, 45z and a cd400, they werent bad for skipping. when they did skip it wasnt like it didnt have a reason. I was wondering about the 500 having issues that I have heard about. As far as the replacment policy I dont have any dealers here so it would be hard to get it replaced. as far as issues with my 9815, its just I liked the sound of the naks better.

I have a stock Nak CD deck that came with my LS400, it only skiped when I hit traintracks going over 60mph, but I have air suspension. But now low profiles made it a little worse, really good SQ tho.

Originally posted by 3.5Max6spd As far as skipping goes...you'll find MANY high end 'audiophile' decks suffer from this, not just naks. It comes at the expense of a fine, precision based reading mechanism. If you are relying on audio from memory of an anti-shock mechanism, then its not the deck for you. SQ is the name of its game, no frills.
... not all high end decks have to suffer from bad skipping.

The Sony C90, which is not known for being a slouch in the SQ dept, has 3 seconds of anti skip memory... I've never had a skip result from a bump in the road, plus it's probably the best CD player I've seen for reading scratched CD's.
