with that head unit would i probably need a seperate unit for eq or does in have enough options on in to do some tuning?

also is there a better head unit to get for around $300 when going for the best sound quality?

Mate the cd400 to something like an Arc XEQ or PEQ7...and you are in business with a nice headroom jump as well- nice line driver and some good EQ- plus its half din- easily mounted in dash or in the glovey.
