does the type of car depend on how loud ur subs can get. for example, do the same subs get louder in an suv comparted to say a 4 door with no fold down backseats...this ? has been in my mind for a long time and i just needa know lol. thx

Yes, the car matters.

Cabin gain can be substantially different in every car. SUVs as well as hatchbacks are often praised for having the best acoustics as far as gaining output.

twice as loud acoustically... in order for something to be twice louder to the ear you need an increase of about 10 db.

and cabin gain varies with frequency. generally, cabin gain increases with a decrease in frequency.

3db isn't a big difference to the ear, but it is noticeable.

Chances are, you sit in a car that burps a 145 at the headrest, and then come back a week later and sit in a 148 at the headrest, you won't immediately know the difference. The BIGGEST difference in an SUV is the feeling of air going by your head... that is difficult to get in a trunk. Thats why SUV's are so much louder to the ear.

Which btw... 4 door trunk car without fold down seats to your average SUV is going to be the biggest swing period.

I have all the bass I could ever want in my Si with 250w rms to my Iridium 10. I was thinking about a 12, but by corner loading the hatch, I have all the output I could want. If you can't make a hatchback have good bass, you should get out of car audio.

Very true about the coustics of a vechichle. I used to have a Toyota hatchback and when I took the same system out of that and put in my 99 cavalier there was a pretty big difference in the bass. Matter of fact I went from a 148.3 to 142.5 on the old 180 ac. So it was a pretty big diff and I could tell.
