most cars run about 14 volts while they're running

ok...so i've also seen amp's like 600 @ 12 volt 900 @ 14 volt and then 1200 @ 17volt

how do you get 17volt?

different batts and alts i'd guess....17 isn't good for factory electrical......i've heard of people using 2 8 volt batts
So i'm guessing when the engine is off with the music on you only get 12volt?, but with the ngine running you get 14volts?

exactally, they have some converters to bump up the voltage if you need it, but running batteries in series will bump up voltage. How much? who knows can't say Ive ever done it before

It's ohms law.

Wire in parallel, voltage stays the same and current doubles.

Wire in series, voltage doubles and current stays the same.

Wire two 8V batteries in series, and you'll have 16V.

Wire two 12V batteries in series, and you'll have 24V

and 18 volts would be ran for the stereo only and completely separeted from the vehicles factory wiring as 18 volts will eventually fry the factory wires
Well, technically it would fry the car's computer and other components, the wires themselves would be fine. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
