Only two things can: exceeding its thermal limits, or exceeding its mechanical limits. A speaker does not know what signal it is being sent.well underpowering wont kill it,but most people with not enough power for a sub turn it all the way up to be louder they say,and distortion is what ends up blowing the sub.
the distortion itself isnt whats killing the subwell underpowering wont kill it,but most people with not enough power for a sub turn it all the way up to be louder they say,and distortion is what ends up blowing the sub.

I don't think that you understand what I meant. Clipping and distortion do not kill speakers, they just don't. What DOES kill speakers is the increase in power because of the distorted sine wave of a clipped signal. It becomes more rectangular, which increases the power under the curve, thus, overpowering the speaker. If anyone has a crapy qpower or something sittin around.... you ought to hook it up to a small amplifier, clipping the hell out of it and see how long it takes to blow //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
