She is going to be a Paramedic in Afghanistan. 4 month tours with a private contractor/construction company protected by the US military. Pay is $115k/year...
Would you go for that pay?

Nope I wouldn't, but then again we may be in different situations.
Only 4 months though, so it's not bad. The down side is I don't think that is long enough to be tax free.
Its a one year contract, she spends 4 months there and 15 days at home/on vacation.Nope I wouldn't, but then again we may be in different situations.

Depends on the job shes doing and the FOB. In Iraq we had 2 to a split trailer with bathroom in the middle, thou that was our unit. Most were in trailers that were 3-5/trailer and no bathroom. In Afgan it was dorm style with 2/room with no bathrooms in the building. If she's gonna be at a FOB then she has no idea what she's getting into. Not much I can do to stop her. Its an entry level position and they will be training her for certifications that she needs for higher position. Definatly not worth $100k for the certifications tho.Just to be fair...
For me to consider a simlar type of job I would need $250k+ and even then I would have to think for a while about it.
For Amber it would need to be much more for her to consider it.
So I think my view is a bit "skewed" then some others may be.
