since everyone tells me to lose the sony that i had. i decided to switch to the Alpine CDA-9855. i gotta say its a really nice HU, much better than the sony. im trying to get use to the change, esp the glide touch. but the thing i miss about the sony was the simplicity. it was very straight forward not many bells and whistles. what do you think?

x2 eww glide touch

its basically a lit bar that performs functions by you "gliding" your finger over it

imagine your driving chillin you reach over to do something on deck finger slips and all of a sudden you got a boombastic facefull of redneck woman booming from your system. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

otherwise good move on the switch

indeed.. makes life much too difficult.. there was no need for this since there was nothing wrong with buttons.. sure, it's a somewhat neat idea, but it still needs more time in the lab to get it right, imo.. for those that have used it, i'm sure you know what i mean.. the ipod interface it was designed around (and so proudly marketed) truly sucks to the point of being unusable.. just try to pick any song at random from your ipod?? bad alpine.. my D310 is a step up in ipod usuablity, but still far behind say Clarion which seems to have the best ipod interface..

sorry for the rant..

my friend had the glide touch on her alpine, and it worked really nice at first. then after a while, it became harder to use (couldn't get songs to scroll sometimes and the glide touch became touchy) and would often lag then suddenly jump several dozen songs at first.

it also gets quite repetitive if you have a massive library on an ipod (30+ gigs). all that gliding gets you nowhere.
