my single cab box fail... and re do oppinions on box plz.

this couldnt be more true. My current box is tuned around 35 on a single Treo 12, and is VERY peaky. I dont know what hz, but I think somewhere from 41-44hz this box absolutely pounds, like unusually loud based on the power ran to it...everything else is basically inadeqaute for my needs...the slope off down below 35hz seems very sharp, which I hate. Conversely, my Treo 15 at 30 hz did not even seem to have a true peak as the slope off both ways was much smoother... 30hz >anything higher
agreed, the 12 i just took out of my car was in a box tuned to 37, i did not build this, and it was extremely peaky, i had a lot of issues with the lower songs, which is what i like, soon to have a 15 tuned to at least 30 if not 28, and on 5k, so it should do some damage, moral of the story is, lower is better

Doesnt even necessarily have to be all torn up and super loud.

Just cut the back out and run a pair of 10s or 12s on like 800w in a nice box. Wouldnt take up much bed space and would give you room back inside the truck.

Or he could do four 12's in a 4th order? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

I wish I could cut the bed out and do a blow thru - but I work construction - and replace sliding glass doors / windows / and do hurricane shutter instalation and repair. so having 8 foot of truck bed is key... maby down the road a bit I might do a blow thru - as I always wanted to do one....

when I first started the sub box build - I calculated the 3 rear ports to be tuned at 32.5 hz and figured if my math was off by just a little bit - it would be ok since i was shooting for 33 hz.

but once I realized I had no where near enough port to let the box breathe properly - I added on the frankenstien port - that is 10.5" net of 4" inside diamater pvc - and the 3" pvc 90 deg. conector. I used my dremel tool sand all the edges on the 3" bend so it flows verry nicely in to the 4" diamater port tube. as for figuring out what the box is tuned to now....

anyones guess is as good as mine - so I guess I will have to stop by my local park and just play hz tones at the same level to see where im getting any peaks at.

but the pair of 10s running off my hifonics bx1605d at 2 ohm load to the amp = absolutely slams

and I see no sign of subs getting hot - or stinky so maby they are the old school good stuff....

time will tell.

about the front box - again im guessing here - but id say its tuned between 50 and 60 hz and that is where I have the crossover for my 6.5" pearless $10 woofers from parts express in there. so I realley dont think the little 6.5s are doing any damage to my sub stage as I tuned the low bass out of them. they are just there to help the upper bass and midrange out.

as much as I hate 4x6 speakers - the factory engineers at gm decided to put them in my dash / and my rear pillars as well.

so I have the crossover basicly tuned from 200 ish and up for those - and they sound fine like that now that they are not trying to play any midbass / bass anymore... I realley do so much hate 4x6 speakers

I guess right now I am pretty satisfied of the outcome of the system build.

it beats pretty good now - the subs play loudly thru the range - the mids are on point - and the highs all match the same level of loudness so the system does not sound lopsided with bass or vocals... id say the mission I wanted to acomplish building the stereo sound wise has been met. I diddnt spend but maby $150 out of pocket on the goods. everything else I already had

the sub box has an ugly port on it - but o well. the truck aint so pretty looking either...

and since I cleaned the rust off the floor - and door rails - and painted the ENTIRE inner truck cab with bedliner I believe I have helped stop the rust problem - and visualy helped out the interior enough to satisfy my needs atm.

now if I feel like it I might do some boddy work to the outside and spray the truck with flat black paint

Yes, in most cases 35hz gives you a very exaggerate peak in the low 40's, probably around 6db higher than it'd be at 30hz in the same box. Obviously this is box and sub dependent, but a 6-9db difference from 45hz to 30hz is not uncommon at all with that kind of tuning.
Why would anything below 30hz be a waste? If I can still get the response I need up top, then why not allow myself to extend lower while smoothing out the response at the same time? This obviously isn't the way to go if you're looking to put up numbers to impress friends with 40hz songs, but it's far from useless IMO. I'll never tune above 30hz again.
Tuning below 30hz kills your high end and takes up more space. The highest I'll tune is 35hz and the lowest I'll tune is 30hz. Why tune below 30hz when no music gets that low? I thought the song Thuggin' by Lil Webbie was the absolute lowest song possible and it's only 35hz.

Tuning below 30hz kills your high end
It depends on the sub/box, and how high up need your sub to play...my 10"er in a 28hz box it too loud up high for me to cross it any higher than 63hz via my HU.

and takes up more space.
The difference is not as great as you think since you don't need as much port area to avoid port noise. I'm using 12in^2 of port per ft^3 in my current box.

Why tune below 30hz when no music gets that low?
It's about more than just being able to play certain stuff. Smoothing out the response curve by getting rid of the big 40-45hz peak area is very, very nice if you actually enjoy listening to music.

Are you sure those are not the Older Power series? The first modern GTI was 3000 Max i think wrote on the front? Dont remember anyways..

Anyways.. RMS should be around 300 (maybe slightly higher if they are GTi W10's 400-500 Range.. 600 for W10 MKi)..

So I'm gonna judge them based you have an open magnate.. as those were Power series... Only 2 double stacked mags.. around probably 40oz.. loss of

I would not run those no more than 400~500Rms.. 600 if they are GTi's W10

Here is some food for thought.. I had an old ford back in the day.. cut a hole under the seats.. and built a box out of sheet metal welded it all up with braces and such.. then sat a custom sealed box.. had angle on it to point from under the seat toward back wall..

Just something to think about.. got hella sound from it being that way.. did it back in the AG department in High School.. miss those days.. ROFL

I figured id jump back in my thread with updates :

the box / while looking like a frankenstien pos with its external port - now sounds verry nice with the pair of 10s running off 800/900+w rms

I used tuned on my crossover for a while to find where it sounds verry good on music like JAMES BROWN "get up off that thing" along with sounding good with rap songs with nice bass lines. I realley like UNK "bring it back" - that songs bass line realley slams with my setup - anyone know the hz ranges on the bass drops for that song ?

anyhow - it seems like I may not need to change things much at all after driving around for a week - messing with crossover points here and there - and ajusting the gains on my amps to perfection... all round the system is pretty well balanced I guess - and is not realley lacking in any hz range anymore.

im a bass head

so if I could manage to get the bass more severe than it is now - with out doing a blow thru - and keeping both seats in the truck lol - then id give it a go. I still might try to pick up a single bad *** 12" to test a diffrent box design with

but all in all its a good system - and id be happy to demo it to anyone in the south FL. area close enough to me to come see it.

I mean the truck is nasty looking - but it sounds good now.... and that was the whole point I guess

something to lift my spirits on the way to and from where ever im driving to.... and give me a free back massage lolz
