My Setup: Giving me problems

This is what i currently have. I am not into having the most powerful system but i like crisp clean sound. The whole setup is CDT except for the amps which are both kicker amps.

HU

Components (Front)

Mids (Rear)

12" Sub/ Ported

4 channel amp (powering components and rears, RMS 38x4)

2 channel amp (bridged, powering sub, RMS 200x1 )

My power wire from the battery to the back is 4ga with an 80 amp fuse within a foot of the battery. This runs into a distribution block which splits the power into 2x8ga wires which run into both amps. Both amps have 8ga ground wires running to a single spot close to the amps (within a foot). At first I didn't have access to my DMM (just moved) so i set my gains pretty low and everything was fine for 4-5 days. I finally got to unpacking my DMM and set my gains perfectly using a 1ghz/0db ton and 50hz/0db tone. The system sounded amazing. I went out for the day listened to my system like i would normally and no problems. Then i head out at night and the second i turn my first corner everything but the HU goes out.

I get back home and make sure all my power wires and remote wires are connected. Everything was good but no power was going to my amps. I check the battery voltage with the battery off (fine), on (fine) in the back nothing. I swap out my 80amp fuse and replace it with another 80amp fuse and the speakers start up (4 channel amp). The 2 channel shows no power. I check the fuse and it's blown.

Why did this occur after i set my gains? The only thing i can think of about my amp is that the fuse was rated at a 30a/32v but my gain was set to 35v. I should of looked at the fuse beforehand but why did my main fuse at the battery blow? I really don't have all that much power running the system.

Let me know what you guys think.

Thanks

Hmm...

What if you have developed a kink or some such in the 4ga to the trunk, but it is not always being shorted out? Like when you went around the corner the 4ga got pinched a bit more, and shorted? Then it would work, then not work. And it would probably get easier to short out over time, as the kink worked its way to easier access to the copper core of the power wire. Just a thought.

Though, maybe not a good one, since your 2-ch amp blew a fuse too. I guess the amp fuse could be a coincidental, second issue. Maybe a bad 2-ch amp is causing all of it. Not sure what might be going on with that, too many variables.

Good luck!

Thanks for the help

The 2chn amp was a refurb so it could be the problem. Personally, i believe it is.
