UPS and FedEx won't take stuff wrapped in Duct tape, if the tape peals off on/in their conveyors sytem they would have a major malfunction. Regular tape or kraft tape are the best way to go (what does Amazon/TigerDirect/etc. use?).

After selling tons of stuff on ebay (and working at a place that ships out hundreds of boxes a day) you find out pretty quick that UPS/Fedex shipped stuff need to be packed like it will take a 4 foot drop (and our account rep told us as much when claims were filed for heavier items).

yeah it was abused......if the duct tape wasnt on there it probably wouldnt have made it here.....always use duct tape!

Worked the outbound sort at RPS (Fedex ground now). We gave some packages Prison/Neverland Ranch type of love depending on how it was packaged (a box with exposed staples that cuts your finger gets an attitude adjustment on the house).
