i'll admit to buying a couple prefabs before. i realized how crappy they sounded after putting my subs in a custom made box //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif it all depends where u bought ur prefab, but generally most of em arent that good (but hell, if u like it dont let us tell u to change) anyone who has a passion for the hobby and has time to devote to it eventually learns there are better options than prefabs. the "super bass" on the top of the box is kinda cheesy tho //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

I've never bought a pre-fab box. I never had the money to spend on one. That's how I got into making them. I've made myself 3 so far, and worked on others for my friends.

When money isn't such a issue I plan on doing a lot of fiberglassing.

Anyway, that prefab box does look cheesy, and it seems like they got people to buy them because it's tuned so high and is louder. I don't think it hits very low but it's possible.

40hz is kinda high, but probaly won't make too much of a difference. Competition SPL boxes are tuned around 5hz under the vehicles resonant freq. Which is closer to 50 or 60hz depending on the vehicle.

thats not a bad box - granted a universal,that particular one slammsthe guys at Probox make some nice enclosures & they do thier homework - I have seen and heard a few all were better than you would think

Not everyone can spare the time to sit infront of a PC and design a box with every spec perfectly matched -

Thanks man......you kinda summed everything up for me. I do love car audio and I still consider it a hobby. The last 5 cars I have owned I have built systems for, even though I havent built a custom box yet. Most of my other boxes have been prefab sealed for the particular sub I purchased. The system in my 95 Accord that I sold had all alpine speakers in the stock locations, seperates up front, and I had an Alpine CD deck, with a Directed 5-channel amp which powered the whole system plus my CompVR in a small sealed enclosure. This system had amazing SQ for what it was. This time around, the stock system sounds really good in the new Accords.......made by Alpine with XM radio and Neodymium speakers all throughout. I just added my sealed CompVR and an Alpine amp to power it with. The only other change I made was placing my CompVR into the pro-box ported enclosure........the bass drops low and is much stronger. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
