Im working on one right now using a stun gun for ignition. Try this soak down some paper towels (bounty works best) in some water, squeeze all the water out. Shove that down in it and you can shoot any thing you want out of it. I embedded about a pound of skittles in a tree.

Thats ABS plastic or black painted PVC?
If it's ABS, good choice. I don't think duct tape is entirely necessary, ABS pipe is used in firework mortar launch tubes because it fails in a less dangerous manner than PVC under pressure. PVC blows up sending shards everywhere, think shrapnel.

But still be very careful! Hairspray works pretty well, but remember when you're doing it that the quantity makes all the difference. You need that perfect mixture of fuel/air.

IF THAT IS ABS YOU NEED TO TRASH THAT GUN AND GO MAKE IT OUT OF SCHEDULE 40 (or greater) PRESSURE TESTED PIPE.

Hairspray is rather rich in fules. A 1-2 second shot should be about right for your combustion chamber.

Also, for a better gun you need to learn about propane injection and fule adjitators. small, brushless fans work, as do chains. Propane is cleaner, leaves no residue, is more powerful, and IIRC cheaper in the long run. Also a 1: 1.2 - 1:1.5 combustion chamebr to barle volume is optimal for most gasous fules you could use.

If you want me to tell you how to make a propane injection system I will. You will need to learn about the combined gas law and have a little bit of innovation as each gun will be different.

If you are really interested in kickass potato fun I will give you some insight on hybrids and more reliable ignition systems. i have had a few badass ones over the years i had a flint and steel one worked well, then i made 2(one for me one for my ex's sister for her HS graduation) with the push button, then i had an air powered one andthat bad boy was SWEET and quiet not as good on the distance but went far enough. i used to shoot them at the shed. scared my neighbor one day he came out cussing out of his 5th wheel, that was good times i am gonna make one tomorrow

Oh and for 2" sch40 barrles a tube of caulk, some duct tape, and some wd-40 to lube the barrle and you have one hell of a fun projectile that explodes in white furry on impact. Smoke bomb projectiles are fun too especially if you can get a good trail. Racquet balls work well in 2" barrles too. IIRC 2.5" sch80 is perfect for tennis balls. Lemons seem to be the fruit of choice for supersonic hybrid potato guns.
