every 4kw we have installed has gone back to memphis at least twice. and james hates them, lol. run 16 volts or more and you should be good. 14 volts, well, keep your fingers crossed.

IIRC the ones i sold to him screw onto the top plate top, not side.

wkbdkid, like i mentioned in pm, the one that has had the most luck (and it's been sent back twice, IIRC) is in an escalade ran off dual alternators, a yellow top and a blue top. james saw voltage drops down around 10-11 volts and they would go up in smoke.

now, i mention this, james ran them strapped at .5ohm. but in the same breath, he had them literally shot flames just hooking them up.

since this last go around, we haven't had one go to service. so maybe it was something memphis took care off (one basiclly came back completely rebuilt). but i just want to make sure all you guys grabbing these are at least aware of the potential carnage. they are very strong amps, but they seem to have a relibilty issue at normal voltages.

and before you take this as just memphis bashing, know this. i love memphis. my truck is memphis 0 gauge wiring, memphis mc1300 big belle amplifier, memphis sq 6.5s up front, memphis mclass 4x6s in the rear and 4 ten inch memphis mclass subs under the seat. memphis does alot of things right, but i think the 4kws, while true powerhouses, could use a bit more intial build quality.

well thats at .5ohm......even some of the niceest amps out dont like low voltages on lower than rated loads. id expect it to get hot if it has 11v @ 1 ohm.....but i wouldnt imagine it blowing @ 1 ohm with 11 v. make sens it would at .5ohm, but i wouldnt think it would at 1 ohm

again, don't shy away from them. this last go around has proven to be the best. jsut be aware that if your electrical system isn't up to par, you have the possiblity of getting to know the memphis service department quite well, lol.
