Well the ported box is not exactly ideal since I'm sure that's a prefab. Would be much better to build a custom box designed for the subs he chose.

Yeah doesn't matter, the fact that your buying it already built makes it a "prefab." It's not ideal for a few reasons. Mainly because you can't control the materials used and the specs aren't designed for your specific woofers.

My biggest concern is that it's a ported box yet they don't tell you the tuning...

he already bought that without talking to me about it... i can try to get him to cancel the order if someone can provide me a link to something better. we cannot and do not have time to build a box as we are deployed in iraq, and is having his brother install the stereo when it gets delivered at home so it can be ready for mid tour leave

Someone on the forum can build you a custom enclosure and ship it to your home.
