my soldier just bought himself (2) RE SEX12D4 subs. both are dual 4ohm. we want to run them down to 2 ohm so what type of amp is needed for these? again I am bringing a total brain fart here...

I understand why you're stuck. It's not possible. You can not wire two dual 4 ohm subs to 2 ohms. Your only options are 1 and 4 ohms. You want something that does 1200+ at 1 ohm.

^^ that would not give you the full power handling those subs can handle. specs are: RMS Power Rating (14.4V):

4 ohms: 330 watts x 1 chan.

2 ohms: 560 watts x 1 chan.

1 ohm: 800 watts x 1 chan.

it'll work but i'd go up a model or 2.

well the problem is this is not only his first car, but also his first system, and i didnt want to risk him playing with things, turning up the gain too much or anything else and blowing the RE's so what would you suggest that is cost efficient then?

i just looked at the specs on the re 1500 and its only 1000 w @ 1 ohm. alot of folks like the MB Quart ONX1.1500D. not sure what your budget is but i dont think that power would be a problem for the REs.

not entirely true.....you cant bridge two subs in this fashion, however, you could wire them to a 2ohm stereo load if you wanted. This is really never necessary as a 2ohm stereo load eqautes to a 4ohm mono load anyway, but it is possible

Not knowing how to set gains on a 200watt amp will kill those subs. Make him read up. You can certainly get a lower powered amp if you prefer, but he's going to have to learn how to set it properly regardless.

with either of those subs should i wore the subs in parallel or series? its been so long since i had to wire anything up..

Parallel/parallel will give you 1 ohm. Series/parallel (or the opposite way, I forget) will give you 4 ohms. You will only get 2 ohms if you wire 1 sub to 1 amp, wiring the subs in parallel.

this kid is driving me nuts. apparently by him saying he bought, he meant he is looking at buying them today. he is apparently looking the Cerwin Vega VMAX 124 sub.. now he wants to know if that mb quartz amp will work with the CV's as well. i will get him to buy today regardless of which sub it is so i can go about my life lol

ok so he did the following purchases:

(2) RE Audio SEX12D4 (dual 4 ohm)

(1) MB Quart ONX1.1500D Amplifier

(1) Ported dual 12" sub enclosure with 2 seperate enclosures 2.0 cubic feet each

so this is all kosher to use together correct? if not let me know asap so i can make changes
