Yeah you are def. going to need a HO alt. Your cap reading 13.5 is displaying volts. So your system is running at 13.5V. You want to be in the 14's.

wait?what big 3?and what's a HO alty?now i add up another batt and it reads 13.8v stable when the engine s on..when it's off,just 12.2v..

a fully charged battery in good condition should be 12.6 V or above. It sounds like your battery may be bad.
