My installation woes - please help

Alright, so after about 5 hours of getting angry from installing and reading diagrams and so forth, I decided to come to the wise men on the mountain. So instead of trying to pinpoint my problem, I'd just describe what I'm doing.

So, I used to have subs and an amp. But I got rid of them and got new subs, new amp, and a capacitor. I have my power cable going from my battery to my capacitor, connected to the + terminal, and then the power cable continues to the amp, where it says "Battery".

Then I have a ground cable coming from my amp to my - (negative) terminal on my capacitor, and then the ground cable continues to a piece of metal in the back of my hatch. Subs are not in yet.

With this all connected, the protection light comes on on my amp, and the voltage meter on my capacitor doesn't come on (it's a Monster 2.5 farad cap, in case that matters.) Thank you for any help you can give me.

Alright, I get it. So two grounds is what I need? Thanks a lot, I'll give her a try. And thanks to everyone for your quick help.
