So, this is my first venture into home audio. I'm a big car audio fan so the transition was welcome. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

This started out as a very budget setup but the budget grew a bit. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Gear:

Samsung 50" 720p DLP (Don't recall model #)

Denon avr-587

Some Old Panasonic DVD player, but getting a new one this weekend since my current one skips really bad

Bic H-100 Subwoofer

Aperion 532 LR bookshelves on Aperion i29 stands

I've made seperate posts in other forums, so if the wording seems a little weird, keep that in mind. This is the compilation of 3 separate threads all into one. Please give me feedback.

Now, onto info:

Here's my Bic H-100 sub, I got for $240 shipped from this place. Link

Just got the sub in a couple hours ago. Right now it's in the middle of the floor playing some pink noise tracks. Trying to get this "loose". Then I'll pull out the RTA gear and start trying different positions.

Expect to see some RTA results, and my Aperions along with their FR charts hopefully by this weekend.

So, on to the pictures...

3 things to note:

1. The "scratches" at the top are just due to the film that I haven't taken off the top yet.

2. The camera I used to take these pictures sucks. When I get more time I'll bring out the DSLR. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

3. My puppies don't like sub-bass. They looked confused as hell when I was playing it.

Today:

Got my Aperions in and running. They come boxed up very well, and even in a freaking velour-like bag for each speaker. The gloss black is bad *** looking.

God, they sound great. For little 5.25" drivers I'm seriously amazed. When I was reading reviews people would say that they have "big sound", and now I totally understand what they were saying.

I have a couple friends over and we've listened to some Dire Straits, Eagles, Michael Jackson, and watched Bad Boys 2 & Four Brothers. They're more impressed than I am.

I'm ****ing pumped.... I can't wait until things get broken in!

Fronts only (no sub):

FrontsOnly.jpg

^ Keep in mind the resolution on this reading is 1/24db. If I had it at 1/12 that response would look much more flat. But, by default, I keep it on 1/24db so I can see all the nuances.

Going to have to wait until I get my 25' "subwoofer" cable until I can move it around, but in all honesty, there's not really anywhere I can move it without it being in the way. Hardwood floor kills me being able to put it behind us...

Sounds **** good.

I was really surprised at the midbass output of the 5.25" drivers.

I'm letting it run at moderate volume now. I'll do some critical listening in a couple days.

My **** dvd player is skipping like a mother. It's the only one with optical out so I'm dealing with it. Think I'll be getting an upconvert this weekend anyway (mainly for the optical out).

I cranked the sub up earlier and it was ridiculous. Think it's safe to say that I'll never use it to its full ability, simply because I won't need to.

Also plan to get the DMM out tomorrow and see what kind of power I'm getting to the speakers at higher volumes... give me some idea of what level I need to stay under.

I can't believe you were watching Don't Forget the Lyrics.......
In all honesty, and I wouldn't deny if I was, I wasn't. My friends were over and were watching it while I was setting things up. Usually, Thursday nights are "Grey's Anatomy" nights (my wife works at a Hospital) so she gets the TV from 8-9 but it was a re-run tonight. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Edit: Htf did you know what it is? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

I just looked up those speakers, looks like they are rather easy on the checkbook;).
$180 each, $360/pair. Not bad.

Keep in mind, you're buying dealer direct. They are the manufacturer. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Look at all the positive reviews. Crap, check out their 30-day in home trial. If you don't like them, they refund your money (shipping included) and cover shipping back. Total cost to you to try them out: $0.

10 year warranty

1-year trade-up program: Decide you want to upgrade? Cool. You get full purchase credit toward the speaker(s) you want to upgrade to.

I think I'll try out their towers at some point, but I'm so **** impressed at the sound from these, I don't think they're going anywhere for a while.

I wasn't knocking it, I was just simply saying it's nice to see speakers that don't make you cry after you've purchased them. How do they sound with a sub present? Or have you tried that yet?
I didn't think you were. Just pointing out those things.

Yea, have the sub hooked up.

Honestly, I'm very impressed. I don't know what I was expecting, but it wasn't this. The sub-bass/midbass integration is pretty dang good.

I think I have them level matched pretty good as it stands. Going to see what I can do about getting the sub FR flat... may open up the box and throw some polyfill in and see what happens, but that's not going to happen for a few weeks.
