I've had one in my car since I was 16. Running these high power systems is actually mildly dangerous, sometimes they can fail catastrophically, as illustrated in this thread. You'd be stupid not to have a fire extinguisher, they cost like $20 and could be the difference between a burned up sub and a burned up car.
It should have some sort of expiration date on it, if not check the gauge and see where the needle is. Depending on the extinguisher and where it's been sitting how fast it expires can differ. I would change it every 5 years just to be safe.I've had one in my car since I was 16. Actually come to think of it, how long do fire extinguishers last? Mine has to be pushing like 5-6 years now, might be time to replace it...

It is a caddy and it has all that sound proofing and thick leather seats. It just didn't get in the cab of the car.How in the **** did you not smell it or anything till you got home. I have had 2 fires in my trunk and i smelt and seen the smoke coming thru my wall.
I always have a fire extinguisher in my car now after the two fires i had
