i wired a mp3 player charger into my car electrical system. i have a relay set up so that if the head unit is on, it allows charging, which is indicated by a green light shown here. The switch shown here allows charging if it is on regardless of if the car is on or off. this is useful for the evenings that i deliver pizzas, as my car is turned on and off about 10-20 times over the course of the evening

from left to right: left speaker wires (2), sound processor wire, 0awg power wire, REM wire, right speaker wires (2), and signal RCAs

here are two ordinary Alpine trim pieces... but the bottom of the silver one and the top of the darker gray one has been sanded to allow them to be installed in a double-din fashion, as shown here:
