It's better, NOT to wipe off exess glue.
Let the runs dry, then take a putty knife, and use it like a scrapper.

Pops those little buggers off like nothing.

Hard as hell, sanding-off smeared glue

Or use a wet rag to do it, but wet MDF might not be good.
