Hey guys need your help. I am going to try to make my first fiberglass enclosure this weekend, but I have a question. I went to a shop to buy everything and the guy asked me if I wanted the ffiberglass Cloth and fiberglass matt. The guys says the cloth is easier to work with and cleaner. What do you guys think

thanks

rick

I wouldn't alternate, I would do 5 or six layers of mat, then one layer of cloth. The cloth finishes smoother therefore making your bono work easier. Also the biggest pieces you can, I don't recommend the small strips.

I would use mat for boxes and cloth for dash pieces like they said cloth finishes smoother. but mat is easier to free form. Im actually using mat for my speaker pods and im gonna use cloth for my dashboard cover.

MAT MAT MAT CLOTH MAT MAT CLOTH MAT CLOTH... Thats what i used for my enclosure... but im running high pressures so i wanted to make sure.. like they all said Cloth makes things easier to finish off however a single layer of cloth is much easier to bend than a single layer of mat in my experience but it won't break apart like that matting will when bent beyond it's limits... Of cours a sub enclosure shouldn't bend. But that's just what ive seen and i **** at fiberglassing.

i actually bought 4 square yards of Fleece this morning. IMO, the fleece is better, stretches, holds more resin. Fleece for life.

The Fiberglass is the strength of the combination. the resin just holds it together. If your making a sub enclosure out of fleece and resin it wont hold up well under pressure.

Well you would just use the fleece to make the general shape, then you would lay 5-6 layers of mat over that....

i think that cloth is much weaker but it is smoother, do a search and you 'll find many opinions on this. i had the same question a week ago and found out about this stuff thats biaxial matt/cloth. check it out
