My DEH-P880PRS/CDIB100II review

can't wait to get the 880 and sell the 860....but i honestly can't figure out why Pio made it so difficult to use a 860 w/ the 100ii when the 880 is supposedly so easy, both use the same exact button setup (as far as multi controls go.....)

Hmmmm I just noticed they have a new ipod adaptor, I have the original one, not the new model... I wonder if its that giving it the increased scroll speed..
Do you have a 2006 HU? If not then I do not think you will see a difference in functionality.

Im looking for a new deck possibly because I just bought another car and thought about the Pioneer p780mp. I liked everything about it but it doesnt have burr brown dacs and no HD radio. So I thought about the 880 but dont know if i like the display very much and still no HD radio. Then I went on to the DEH-p9800bt and no HD radio. I spend a lot of time in my car, looks like im sticking with kenwood...

I just got a CD-IB100 (not the II) as bestbuy had it for only $79. I hooked up a video ipod and overall it works well but it's not that fast. One can easily turn the dial to fast and it takes sometimes upto what seems like 2 full seconds before it draws. You start turning the dial to fast and the screen goes blank and when you stop it eventually finally draws. I don't know if I'd want to be finding a song like that while driving. I will most likely just use playlist mode. Luckily that's the default everytime you turn the dial. Switching tracks is instant. Display updates 1 second later.

Plus, as others have said, in IPOD mode, you can't display artist/title at the same time. What a bonehead move by Pioneer. They put programming time into the stupid screensavers but no artist\title. I wish there was a software package that would let me retag songs as I transfer them to the ipod as I could then just replace album with the title.

I also wish the screen had more characters instead of those wasteful icons to display what mode you're in.

Then I did a test with an MP3 cd and that actually works better. Scrolls fast (plus shows numbers) so that even if you out scroll the head unit, the numbers always draw so you have a reference. In ipod mode, no numbers, just total blank screen of alternating colored rows. Plus, in MP3 CD mode, you CAN display artist/title.

How's the experience with the CD-IB100II model? The same or is it faster? What about a 7800 combo?

Overall the 880 is one very nice unit. Just a few simple stupid things that Pioneer could easily fix keep it short of being almost perfect.

So am i reading this thread correctly?

That you cannot display the Artist and the Song Title at the same time? If so, that may just kill the 880/Pioneer combo for me... How could they leave out such an important thing?

I'm confused, anyone know?

To tell you the truth I did not even notice it. I actually thought you could display both for weeks until someone said that you you could not and I double checked. The scroll speed fine I usually display the album name and song name. I am familiar enough with my music to know the artist from there. Not sure waht the Alpines can display but maybe you should check them out if it is mandatory that you have that capability.

BTW: I mentioned your discoveries and addressed the I vs. II query in my review: http://www.caraudio.com/forum/showthread.php?t=156323

Wow, well that definately does muddy the waters for me as i would much prefer to have the Artist/Song combo displayed at the same time....

So the 7 different Greatest Hits Albums would all show: Greatest Hits / for all of the different artists.... That really bugs me that they would leave out such a basic feature (hell, the DEFAULT feature display on an iPod)

no offense, but if you can't instantly recognize which greatest hits album you are listening too....maybe you have too much music

One thing you could do is just go into itunes and relabel your albums to include the artist name, ie Rolling Stones - 40 Licks. I dunno . . . it bugs me a little that you can't have artist and title, but with the functionality of this combo compared to everything else I've used out there, I think it's kind of dumb to discount it just based on the fact you can't do artist/title.

i recently installed an alpine 9857 in my truck. i am fairly happy with it, but some things are really aggrevating. are you able to search artists or songs while in random mode? the full control with the remote would be handy too, not to mention all of the processing that alpine conveniently left out of this year's lineup.

On my way home from work I will check to see if you can search while in random and report back later this evening. Its strange that I have not tried that before.
