I just got a CD-IB100 (not the II) as bestbuy had it for only $79. I hooked up a video ipod and overall it works well but it's not that fast. One can easily turn the dial to fast and it takes sometimes upto what seems like 2 full seconds before it draws. You start turning the dial to fast and the screen goes blank and when you stop it eventually finally draws. I don't know if I'd want to be finding a song like that while driving. I will most likely just use playlist mode. Luckily that's the default everytime you turn the dial. Switching tracks is instant. Display updates 1 second later.
Plus, as others have said, in IPOD mode, you can't display artist/title at the same time. What a bonehead move by Pioneer. They put programming time into the stupid screensavers but no artist\title. I wish there was a software package that would let me retag songs as I transfer them to the ipod as I could then just replace album with the title.
I also wish the screen had more characters instead of those wasteful icons to display what mode you're in.
Then I did a test with an MP3 cd and that actually works better. Scrolls fast (plus shows numbers) so that even if you out scroll the head unit, the numbers always draw so you have a reference. In ipod mode, no numbers, just total blank screen of alternating colored rows. Plus, in MP3 CD mode, you CAN display artist/title.
How's the experience with the CD-IB100II model? The same or is it faster? What about a 7800 combo?
Overall the 880 is one very nice unit. Just a few simple stupid things that Pioneer could easily fix keep it short of being almost perfect.
