And I'm glad you made this thread, d00d ~ now I don't feel so bad about the ghetto setup I'm running in my room for shits and giggles.
Have a look:

Look at the picture that I posted, AllStar and note the black box on the top shelf over on the right that says Pyramid on the front of it. Yep, it's from the same company that makes really crappy car audio gear. But they make good AC/DC converters (aka Power Supplies). Not to be a total n00b, but what exactly do you need to run a car amplifier in a home set-up other than the option of buying a plate amp? I know you need some sort of DC/AC converter, but what exactly are they called and how much do they go for?
That's what mine are - a pair of eXcelon KFC-Xw10dBs. In their recommended sealed enclosure (.8 ft^3 after displacement) I think they sound pretty good, actually. I bought mine off of eBay BNIB for $100/shipped for the pair after they were a closeout model just to see what they were like and I like 'em fine! After I got my DAT M6 12" they got retired to the house where they normally sit in on HT duty but I cobbled this wannabe room 'system' together just for kicks. The POS box on top is a no-name (literally) deal that was given to me...it's running thru a 55Hz HP filter off of the amp next to my tape deck and the eXcelon 10s are sent thru a 70Hz LP off the other amp. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gifprowler those subs at the bottom, the db+ ones, are those any good? I got a pair of 10's a friend gave me
Nope. I work for a seafood restaurant. Those were from when I emptied the pockets of the coat I was wearing after work one night and I've not bothered to pick 'em up yet.I just notice the rubber gloves on the floor next to the box.
