My computer is slow....

Fancy a fondle, eh?
I was thinking about wiping everything off and starting over, but I have 300 or so songs download and I don't want to lose them. Is there anyway I can save them, or speed up my computer? When I go to Windows Task Manager and click on Performance it says that my CPU usage is 100% and I don't remember it ever being that high. When I click on the processes tab in the task manager it shows a lot of stuff that I don't think I need to be running, I know some of them need to be running but there are like 30 things there.

well to backup yer songs burn them either onto some cds or a dvd.

looks like you have some spyware and crap on your comp

just back up all the files you need and do a clean reformat. then viola. your computers fast again/

or go through and edit your registery and startup files so that all the crap that loads up isnt running when you start up your comp......but the best bet would be to back up all the songs and reformat

ya das too much work. also its good to reformat once in a while.

Im on my friends new computer. Dual 3GHz proc's and 2gig of RAm, this shit is amazing. Aided by a cable modem, click on a page on here and it's instantly loaded. Im in love. It takes a total of like 1.5minutes to load everything once you hit the power button.

Why, exactly?

I've been running on the same O/S install for close to 5 years now with no problems. I do not in the least claim any status as a technogeek - 'cause I'm not, hence why I ask the question. I'm pretty computer illiterate, to tell the truth. But...I keep tabs on the spyware/adware and such....have never once (*knock on wood*) had a virus infestation...and defrag the HD regularly. So far, so good. (though, with my dinosaur of a pc no one but me is likely to notice any substantial slowdowns...)

reformatting doesnt change the OS, it simply wipes it clean of anything and everything you ever installed or pyt on there. No viruses, no spyware, no nthing. You dont have to worry about a clogged mess of random files and all that isht, but simply maintaining your system will reduce the need for reformats.

Mine used to take about a minute to fully load once pressing the power button:crap: Yes cable internet is nice and fast:yumyum:

^^^^ Okay....I'm not that lacking in computer knowledge to have thought that a reformat changes the OS. What I meant by stating that is that when I originally acquired this pc as a hand-me-down from my mother it had Windows 95 on it. The first day I had it I wiped it and went in with 98se. (there's not enough system here to run XP and I'm not real fond of 2000 or Me)

That was close to five years ago and it's on that same install....never been reformatted once during my ownership of this pc. It's been my experience that with proper maintenance reformats aren't necessary at all barring extraordinary happenings like serious virus infestation and such. *shrug* Or, I suppose it's possible I've just been exceedingly lucky, maybe??

Umm...I don't see how the presence (or lack thereof) of a broadband internet connection will have anything at all to do with the pc's boot time. Please correct me if I'm wrong...

I know it doesn't, I was just referring to Cable internet being fast since N00blet said it only took a couple of seconds for a page to come up on the net.

I meant including logging into the account and letting all the start up processes ger running //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
