My Brahma arrived

My 12" MK1 Brahma came today. I had to modify an old sealed (1.1cuft) enclosure from autoboxx.com to give myself the depth needed to install it and listen to it today. compared them to my 2X 10" HE2's as reference, which are also in little over 1cuft. Both would recieve 600wattsRMS@1ohm from the sub channel of a 1100d5.

First thing to note is a loss of SPL going to the Brahma. I expected this due to 2X 10" moving more air. The Brahma smacks the crap out of the 2X 10" in terms of lower extension, and SQ. The HE2's are peaky on a lot of music. The Brahma plays nearly everything well. Cherry Poppin Daddies sounded a lot more natural with the brahma.

I planned on having a sealed enclosure glassed into a corner of the trunk. I may try to see if it is possible to get enough space in that corner for a tuned enclosure though to bring some SPL back.

One other thing to note. I don't really like the way the tinsel leads are on this brahma. I don't know if it was just the MK1, but it is just large insulated wire running, with like a padding on the cone where the leads touch the cone when pulling in. Why didn't they weave the tinsel leads through the spider like so many other high end subs do now? Just seems like they cheaped out in that area to me.

Sub is mounted upside down //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif but looks good
Hell, I don't know what the picture is, so I didn't know which way it should be mounted :p

I noticed something else I find funny about the MK1 as well. Why is there no vent on the bottom like most high end subs? The MKII had one as shown here.

are you talking about the venting on the basket or the pole vent (hole on the bottom of the motor)??? the padding on the cone is how ALOT of subs prevent the lead slap..I personally dont like the woven leads.

..and **** you fugged that gto trunk up quick //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

That picture is of a Brahma bull half shadowed out....the long part on the bottom of your sub (b/c it is upside down) is its horn.

Nice Distro Block //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif Give that thing somemore power for more SPL //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I thoguht the old Bramahs thandled more than 600 watts? it's not going to be as efficient as those 2 10's though.

depends on the box size, thermally yah, it'll take 1600 without issue, but you'll hit xmax with less in most cases, there's a PDF on the site, 600 watts might not be ideal, but he's got enough power to get it moving.

PS. Porting a brahma makes me sad //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

Why? Mine does well ported;)

Because it's actually the weaving part that is cheaping out...

You drastically limit spider choices, stiffness, and increase spider failure rates when you do that - the one supposed gain doesn't justify doing it from an engineering standpoint when you look at all the problems it presents.

I'm talking about the pole vent directly on bottom of magnet. My MKI doesn't have this.

BTW The GTO trunk won't be fudged up forever. As soon as I settle on a permanent solution, I will make it look purty.

According to the chart on their site in 1 CUFT sealed the brahma can take 900RMS before hitting excursion limits. (http://www.adireaudio.com/Files/BrahmaPowerHandling.pdf) So yes it is being limited a bit by the power.

Because it's actually the weaving part that is cheaping out...

Hey man thanks for the explanation. It makes sense. I was just thinking of how woven eliminated tinsel slap and makes it look clean, but if it has potential to be an engineering nightmare than I understand its omission.

Why? I have heard that Brahmas are great in either enclosure. Their Qts is right on the cusp of to port or not to port. Many say they retain nearly the same SQ while gaining a bit of SPL.
