I have a 5 year old alpine MRV f353 5 channel amp hooked up to a old clarion head unit and Boston acoustic components up front and coax in the back.
A few weeks ago I took the car into a shop to ask about upgrading the head unit and putting in a sub and the guy messed with my amp and turned the volume up on the strereo to do some tests and see what it needed. I know he did something with the crossover and gain setting also.
Anyways now I get intermitent static on both of my right speakers but never my left speakers. It's a sort of slight hiss and crackling that may last for a second or two every 10 or 20 seconds while music is playing. I've noticed that it comes and goes though. It also seems to be worse when the volume is low or medium but maybe it's just that I can't hear it as bad when it's high. I can reproduce the effect just by moving the knob on my amp that controls the gain. while moving it the static gets worse.
I was told that it's my amp that's the problem and it was just old but I want to make sure that's the problem. Also, is there any diagnostics I can run to find out exactly where the problem is coming from? And is it worth it to try and fix it myself or have a shop do it?
One more thing, I think my battery is starting to go (car takes longer to start) - could this influence the problem at all?
