ok so i just bought a new laptop for alot of money, and on my last desktop i had close to 6000 songs. well as you can imagine i had them on frostwire and it seemed as though it slowed my computer down quite a bit. well this computer has a 120g HD and i dont wanna fill it up with music and i dont want this thing to be slow, cuz right now it screams and i would like to keep it that way. so anyway what would be my best bet for having lots of music and keeping this thing the way it is? should i buy an external HD just for music and pictures or should i look into other programs such as itunes or what. i have heard that just by having frostwire or limewire it makes your comp slow. thanks in advance:)

Songs do not make your computer slow, shitware like frostwire and limewire do.

Get yourself a torrent client and use that and as far as slowing down most all windows PC's slow down after time and enough registry edits so I usually reload once a year, twice on family's computers as they install a bunch of shit all the time.

i have tried a couple torrents in the past, and it took a really long time to download stuff. i may have been doing something wrong, but i was using utorrent. also i dont know much about computers lol, what do you mean by reloading?

my computers have not slowed because I got everything set like I wanted with music on an external and then created an image of the machine.

about once a year I re-image the computers.

i need to know what to use to get my music? i can put it on an external, but i still want a good program to get it.

Exactly!!

It's the programs that slow your pc, and bad files that you download. I wouldn't download anything from those p2p clients, full with sh!t.

Download via torrents, use a torrent site that uses private trackers and you should be good. Usually quality sites only upload from release groups so quality is A+.

Another thing to note is the folder structure you use to store the files. I have over 25K songs a HD on my network. No slow down at all, my server pc is only a AMD 3700+, 2GB, 5 HD.

Here is what I do, all incoming downloads are on a separate drive. If they need to be extracted, they will be output to the "dump" drive. It's faster to extract to a separate drive than the same drive.

I use MP3TAG to correct the tags, before, notice tags are all screwed up.

After editing, once done here I move the files from the "downloads" HD to the "media" HD

I add the album art in MediaMonkey, but you can do it in MP3TAG. Here is the done result. All tags correct for easy browsing:cool:

Seems like a lot of work, but it's not and well worth it!!

For Utorrent the sites i use are mininova and piratebay, as for the storage solution i dont think i could buy a laptop without having a main desktop with all the storage and speed i could use..

i use utorrent..

a lot of private sites require a minimum ratio, meaning you have to upload a lot.
Yup, that's why private sites are better. If no one uploaded you will have a lot of dead torrents or torrents that are stuck at a certain % and never finish.

My fav all around site torrentleech.org, others I use are : funfile.org, filemp3.org & puretna.com:D

I use azureus as my client, now know as "vuze"
