MultiChannel Amp, or dedicated?

I know you guys are sick of "which is better??" threads, but I didn't see an answer to this in the first few pages of posts...

With 6 cabin speakers (2 tweets, 2 5.25", 2 6x9), and 1-2 subs, what are the pros and cons of buying a bigass amp and running them all off differnt combos of bridged/solo channels, or buying a sub amp, and a "cabin" amp, OR, even buying three amps, one for each pair (not counting the tweeters)??

Is this a stupid question? :p

My goal is a loud, decent sounding system, that will sound good even when cranked up high enough to hear over Dual 3" exhaust. I'm pretty much starting from scratch here, so all options are open.

No

You can write a novel on said topic, but the bottom line is. You can't stereotype

the two concepts and find a winner, rather you need to compare both designs

and figure out which one has the advantage sonically using the equipment chosen

for the designs.

Decent sound means that you don't want to pursue something esoteric

so do whatever you need to do that is within your budget. Multiple amps

have the advantage where if one amp breaks, the whole system isn't down

and it might be cheaper to replace one amp vs. replacing one big monster multichannel amp.

Thanks for the advice. I imagine the size of said amp would be a factor as well. Currently I have a pair of IDQ10's running sealed off an old Lanzar Vibe 300Wrms (yes, I know, I know.) I'm thinking of something a bit louder, but not much, possibly an IDQ12 with a 500W amp for subs, and not more than 100w/corner in the cabin.

Initial purchase on a 4 channel, 1000W amp that can do all that might be cheaper than a 500W sub amp and a 3-400w cabin amp.

Hmmmmmm

You're right, I'm not into going nuts over SQ, and fiddling for hours over staging - this car is built to go fast, I just want to listen to loud music while I'm going fast //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Also good advice I suppose. However, if I make the system impossible to upgrade.... I won't be tempted later //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Yes, you will...you'll simply be screwed when you do it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
