Multi-amp Brahma setup

The electrical system in my 1991 Infiniti Q45 is not exactly the greatest and am looking to draw a minimum amount of current from the car as possible to power a Brahma 12" sub. My current setup includes a Kenwood 729s and a Pioneer Premere sub. The 729s has 2 20amp fuses....creating a 40amp total fuse rating. Now is it possible to run a Brahma with 2 seperate amps if all the settings were set the same? I've been looking at the US Acoustics USX600D and it puts out 375watts RMS at 2ohms. This amp is a cool running digital class amp and only has 1 20amp fuse. Would it work to run 1 of these amplifiers into each of the Brahma's 2 2ohm voice coils? I'd like to not add more stress to my cars electrical system...hence the wanting to keep the fuse amp ratings the same as my current setup. I know this seems odd....anyways...lemme know! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

The reason why I asked about that specific amp is because it produces 375watts RMS at 2ohms and I can get it for only $157 each! The Alpine does look nice....but the cheapest I've seen is $205. Plus the total fuse rating is at 40amps. I'm basicly looking for a a single amp or amp combo that will produce 800watts RMS (or close to it) whilst keeping the 40amp fuse rating total. I looked at the US Acoustics USX800D, but it only produces 600watts RMS at a 2ohm load and has a total fuse rating of 50amps. The good thing though is that it includes a subsonic filter. I also looked at the JBL BP1200, but its a HUGE power guzzler with its 120amp fuse total.

Did I not mention that US Acoustics USX600D is a Class-D dedicated mono subwoofer amp? I think that a class-d amp doesn't follow the same power consumption versus power output rules than that of a standard amplifier.

Or a pair of Alpine MRD-M300s ... I wouldn't recommend trying to set the gains and crossovers by eye on two amps. With the precise digital gains of the Alpines, you don't have to worry about whether or not you're hurting the sub ...
SWEET, my brahma will by fine then. I got a couple of those mrd's.

Yeah, look into them, Q45 guy. You can check them out at Magnolia hi-fi if you live near the tigard area (i'm also from portland). They will tell you some good things about the mrd-m300's. I have two and they have been sweet so far.

Although the Alpines do look nice, I am looking for something more efficient. A friend of mine can get me awesome deals on Alpine stuff...but I would end out with more power consumption with less power output. Hey BonusBobo....you know Artie over at Magnolia Hi-Fi in Beaverton?

why don't you just upgrade your electrical system so that you can push the load of the amp(s) you need without your lights dimming.......seems to me this would be the most logical thing to do rather than dancing around the problem and trying to defy the laws of electronics //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Well...ya see it will cost me around $600 for a 200amp alternator. I've already got a 1-farad capacitor installed along with my Kenwood amp and for the time being its doing ok. My stock alternator is on its way out (thrubbing headlights and dash lights without stereo on) so I'll have to spend $150 getting a re-manufactured one soon.

umm why do you have to pay that much for a new alternator??? I paid 200 for a 120 amp alt at Mralternator.com and i am very satisfied. Check around, you can probably get them alot cheaper...

nope, I don't know artie. I have talked with gabe, the installer guy, and also am on a first-name basis with Ben Lyle and Pete Overholser. those two guys are pretty nice, but Pete is more interested in what I want than Ben. Both guys are salesmen though, and it's clear.

I am currently looking on getting the stock alternator rewound to meet a 200amp capacity, but I don't know if this is possible. The alternator in my car is very odd in that it has quite a few things that connect directly to it. I have a feeling that this is why it would cost so much for the high-output alternator. Plus the fact that its for an Infiniti Q45 and places think they can rape you on the price for stuff because you drive a luxury car. I'll let you guys know about the higher-output alternator re-winding on Monday, for none of the auto electrical shops around here in town are open on Sundays. If I CAN get it rewound for a cheap enough price...I just may get 1 big amp.
