I have had my 15" L7 now for almost 6 months.. I am starting to want something different.. For some reason I am really wanting an 18.. The only two in my price range that I know about are the SX 18 and the Avalanche 18 ... I know the Avalanche would be hard to get so I guess ill go with the SX.. I will be running it off of 1000 watts.. Will the SX get lower than the L7 ?? Will it have any better SQ?? Will it be as loud?? Just a few general questions.. I have searched but not found anything comparing the two..

Also, if I can find an avalanche, what can I expect out of it?

Would I be better off porting either 18?

Thanks

i would suggest PMing NukedSodaPop he has had experiance with 12" l7's and 18" sx.

to state the obvious, theoretically it should be louder due to more cone area, but it is all install dependent.

18" sx's are badass woofers, and they do have the potential to get way louder, how much space do you have? that could play a factor in it as well

IMO, the L7 ported will be louder than the 18sx sealed, if they have the same wattage. If you have the space, then go with an sx ported with 1k wrms. The sq wont be awesome but I'm sure it'll wang like a mf'er

Well I could fit around 9ft^3 if it came down to it.. Im kind of wanting to do a sealed box to possibly gain a little SQ, if thats possible with a SX ...

Basically, I want to be near as loud as I am now and gain more low end and SQ... Running off of 1000 watts.. Is it possible?

18sx ported with another amp :p

my brother used to have 2 12" l7's years back with the same wattage i have now,

my sx has better sq and LOVES the lows... imo (his too)

alot but kind of their the same motor and all but with the square vs round surface area it be kind of like steping down from a 15" l7 to a 12" l7 with a lot more sq. I would do the 1 15" l7 ported the 18" sx theroratically will be allitle louder but with the money you save you can use in install and can make the 15" louder then the 18" with ease plus sx's arent the most freindliest subs in a sealed enclosure some have them sealed and enjoy them but most dont all my imo

Well I can sell my L7 the box with it locally for $300.. A new 18" SX will cost me $320.. A box will cost what, $50-60 to build? So only a $70 dollar loss going to the SX..

Polecat, how does the CVX perform in a ported box? Room is not an issue... Would a ported box or large sealed box be better?

the CVX will also do fine portd, amazing output, but if you don't want a huge ported box, do them sealed...still crazy output.
