Moving from sealed to ported

I have 2 JBL 804 subs in a sealed box. They are in the trunk of a '98 Cavalier all the way up against the back seat facing the rear of the car. I am thinking I want to try a ported box now to see what it sounds like. I am going by JBL's recommendations on the box and port size. They have the sub and the port facing the same direction.

What would be the difference if I had to face the subs towards the rear of the car just as they are now, but point the ports either up or out each side?

ya rear sub and port firing usually works pretty good. I have liked the box i was using my eclipse in recently. was about 15x15x30w with port out of the side. I could go back and forth with the regular way and turning it so the port was firing to the back and sub firing up and both ways sounded really good.

Really simple design, this is the one I did for two of those.

Rear seat down is not an option. I have a child car seat back there. as it is I only have a small window of time to listen to the system, after dropping him at school and driving to work in the morning then again in the afternoon. He likes it as long as I play the songs he likes but I obviously can't turn it up.
