I'm looking to replace the head unit in my car. I'm not going to go all out, just a basic head unit. My problem is that it mounts directly above the face level heater vents in the dash, and the heat did nasty things to the Blaupunkt I had in there. I shoved a thermometer in there, and found that with the heat cranked and the vents open, I'm running about 150 degrees farenheit right at the bottom of the heat unit's sleeve. I need a stereo that can stand up to that level of heat.
Whatever I get, I'll be trying deflect or insulate against some of that heat, but I don't want to mess around with lots of stereos and spend lots of money on them as they die. I've looked at a few owners manuals. An Alpine I looked at gives a high-end to its ambient temperature range of 140 degrees. An Aiwa said that it will automatically eject its CD at 112 degrees (man, that sounds annoying). I don't think I found any temperature info from Pioneer, I'm still waiting to hear back from Kenwood on what they test their units for, and Sony's website is royal pain in the butt with little hard information.
Anyone got any suggestions?
