My mother in law, who has always been high strung, had lost her mom, her husband, and then her dad (all to cancer) in a three month period a few years ago. After a year she had met a man that had lost his wife to cancer, they decide after a few months to get married. Marriage didn't last more than seven or eight months before they get it anulled.

She sold us her house, the house my wife grew up in, to us a year ago and we had agreed to a price that included some furniture and household items, like a lawnmower, and all the furniture that was in the den. After she found out how much we were able to sell our house for she demanded another $3000 for these items. Yesterday she called my wife and was accusing us of only calling her when we needed something as well as a bunch of other things. My wife after several minutes of this was getting very ticked off and told her she was going to hang up, and to call back when she had calmed down. My mother in law called a few hours later and said " I'm sorry, I just figured if I pushed you away, that it would be easier for you when I'm gone." She had also tried to kill herself before by swallowing a bunch of pills, but my father in law had caught her and got help.

Since this my wife no longer feels safe leaving our son with her. She was going to watch him while we were on our trip. We have convinced her to get more help and she is going on meds, but there is no guarantee that they will work.

My wife and I have talked it over and decided to cancel the trip because family is more important. Thankfully we can get most of our money back, trip was $6500. We should get back everything except our $500 deposit, and we might be able to get that back from our trip insurance.

/rant Just needed to vent.

To summarize, my mother-in-law is crazy (just diagnosed with bipolar disorder), threatening *******, causing us to cancel our trip that we had booked and paid for to Sandals Dunn's River Jamaica,
