more power

Just slightly beyond my understanding at the moment is power usage of a subwoofer...

-assume i am playing a 30hz tone, and have a woofer running off it's rated rms power

-if i was to add more power...say going from 350 to 500 rms, the excursion stays the same?

- when you add more power, is it the speed at which the cone moves from center to peak and back that changes?//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

more explanation of the question upon request:D

the difference in speed that the cone travels is difference in frequency. there should be some noticable difference in excursion when you add power. the box may not allow this depending on teh woofer and box type. this goes into why a ported box generally gets as loud with less power than a sealed. its all in the ablity to reach a certain amount of excursion with the power applied.

i think you need quite a bit more power to double cone excursion, but yes when you add more power the cone will move farther each direction. speed is 100% frequency dependant.

20hz means 20 cycles per second

20,000hz or 20khz means 20,000 cycles in a second. try to imagine something moving in and out that fast.... truly amazing.

add more power and at whatever frequency your playing, and excursion just simply increases.
